Marquis Resident Sews Reading Pillows and Donates Books to Quatama Elementary 5TH Graders

Olga has made her own dress that she will model at the show.  The Fashion Show theme is “Fashions in Time” and over 40 dresses from various eras will be modeled by high school students who will also be modeling their current Prom dresses.  Light refreshments will be served.

Olga was a professional seamstress who made many gowns for others throughout her life but has never had any of her pieces showcased in a fashion show.  However being the kind person that she is, Olga feels that someone else should be wearing the dress she is making but Olga will wear her creation for the show.

Olga was born in Belize and her family and others around her struggled to make ends meet at times not having food to eat and for others it was difficult to buy clothes to wear.  Olga had learned to sew by the time she was 9 and would take all fabric she could get and would make clothes for others who would come to her and say they needed something to wear.

Olga knew that they had no money so she wouldn’t charge them or would tell them they could give what they could afford.  Olga moved to Mexico when she was 14 and wanted to meet the President of Mexico so she drew a picture of him and was invited to his palace to give it to him which she did and had dinner with the President as they hung the picture on the palace wall.  Olga held many jobs in upholstery shops until she opened her own shop in Portland.
